Why has David Kasrati, an Albanian hostage-taker, got 4-year-old Megan drugged in the boot of his car on board a ferry to Zeebrugge; why did her 15-year-old brother, Ryan, attempt to rob Inspector Daley at gunpoint; what was the mystery behind the death of the children’s father, Andy, a year before these events; and why is their grieving mother, Laura, being hounded by unscrupulous bailiffs? Daley and his team want answers.

Competing gangs, knowing more than the police, pursue Laura’s family.  While under police protection they become targets for abduction, turning a park, a police safe house and hospital A & E into war zones, as ruthless killers pursue their lust for money; millions stolen from the Jamaica Bank Depository in London.

Daley’s investigation uncovers competing intentions between the Albanians; KGB renegades specialising in taking the proceeds of crime away from the thieves and killing them; and to an MI5 agent with ties to both crime groups; and to the owners of a demolished hotel where Andy, their employee, was killed, and why have they relocated to Dublin soon after his death.

 To arrest the villains and recover the missing loot, Daley, the Security Services and Garda Siochana set up a sting operation in Dublin.  The operation produces results, but leaves the city in flames, while a detective is taken hostage by the arch-villain in an ingenious escape bid, ending in tragedy.

Amid the heartbreak, adversity, and fear, love finds a way to bloom.
